The Route du Rhum set sail yesterday afternoon

The mythic boat race started yesterday from St Malo in Brittany. The skippers taking part in this transatlantic single-handed yacht race are addicts to speed without any limits, just daredevils.  Some of them might be injured ,  lose their boats or worse. In 1978, a well-known skipper, Alain Colas,  was lost at sea during the race first edition. Why do human beings have to tempt death without any need? I have no answer, I’m afraid.

Its route: St Malo ( Brittany) – Point à Pitre in Guadeloupe.

They have already pressed on under full sail despite the strong gusting in the Channel. One of them was hit by a cargo and had to be airlifted to safety and some more had to abandon because of the damage caused to their boats by strong waves and winds.

Good luck to them all. Click on the link below to have a look at the amazing start.

Bon voyage et bon vent!
